Production Feature Coming Soon!

Published: April 8, 2025

We have an exciting new feature on the way that will change how you product and stocktake your recipes for greater stock holding accuracy and variance tracking visibility!

The functionality to Save Recipes as Stock Items is soon going to be upgraded to the new and improved Production feature! This will provide you with the ability to save Recipes as Production Items or flag them as Countable on a Stocktake.

Our new Production feature update will release in early May!

How does this affect me?

The release of this update will remove the ability to save recipes as stock items to replace them with the enhanced Production Items.

We will be automatically converting your Recipes Saved as Stock Items to either Production Items or Countable on Stocktake Recipes as part of this release.

If we detect that you use Recipes Saved as Stock Items in requisitions between your outlets, then all of your Recipes Saved as Stock Items will be automatically converted to Production Items.

However, if you have Recipes Saved as Stock Items, but do not use them for Requisitions we will convert them to be Recipes flagged as Countable on a Stocktake.

If you believe that your recipes should be converted one way or another, please reach out to us and we can flag your database as requiring a specific conversion method.

But also, don't stress! After the release of this feature, you will be able to transition any Recipe in your database between being a regular Recipe, Countable on a Stocktake or a Production Item within Cooking the Books / Drinking the Profits as required.

Production Items

Production Items are basically Recipes that transform one collection of stock items into a new Stock Item that you keep in your inventory. This can be useful for things like homemade pasta, soups, batched cocktails, or even simple preparation items like tomato slices.

When you physically prepare the Production Item, you will simply need to create a Production Record! Depending on the settings for each recipe you will be able to enter your expected production and total yield prepared, as well as any possible variations on your ingredient usage.

This Production Record will automatically adjust your Theoretical Stock on Hand (TSoH) for all ingredients used in the Production Item. This has the benefit of ensuring that your Variance and TSoH reporting accurately reflect the unavailability of the ingredients used in the Production Item. You can't unmake the soup to get the onion back out of it!

Additionally, since the Production Items are treated as regular stock items they can also be counted on Stocktakes, allowing you to effectively monitor the volumes of these items and take action when they begin to run low.

Countable on Stocktake Recipes

If you don't send your produced Recipes to other Outlets and if you don't need your Variance and TSoH Reports to accurately reflect the finer details of yield and usage variance in preparation, then you can mark your Recipe as Countable on a Stocktake.

This option allows you to count the Recipe on your Stocktakes as if it were a regular stock item, however the cost and volume counted to the Recipe will instead be attributed to the ingredient stock items allowing you to still keep track of and manage the inventory of your ingredient stock items on the Variance Report in a more accurate way!

Further Questions?

We will be providing further updates during the month leading up to release, providing more details and examples of the updated workflows. So stay tuned!
