About Countable on Stocktake Recipes
Recipes that are marked as Countable on Stocktake will appear on your Stocktakes. However, they will not appear as Stock Items elsewhere in the system in the same way as Production Stock Items.
When you enter a count against a Countable on Stocktake Recipe, then in the background of the Stocktake this count will be broken down into the ingredient Stock Items that make up the recipe at the time of counting.
As an example: if we have a Gnocchi Recipe that uses Potato, Flour and Salt Stock Items as ingredients, then the count against Gnocchi will be split out in the background and attributed proportionally to the Potato, Flour and Salt instead.
This then means that on reports like the Variance Report you can get more accurate results as the system will break down your recipes into raw ingredients! However, caution is needed here as this same logic will happen with the Theoretical Stock on Hand report!
Please Note: This feature is most suited for if you need to count some stock items that need to be converted in one way or another to a different physical form of the same item via a recipe, such as grated carrot or sliced tomato, for easier counting.
If you require more accuracy, or need to count a recipe that is more complex, then we would strongly recommend using the Production Feature.

Converting a Recipe to be Countable on Stocktake
From the navigation bar, expand the Recipe Book heading and open the Recipes page.
Then, navigate to the desired recipe and choose the "Countable on Stocktake" Recipe Type and select a Category that the recipe will appear under on future Stocktakes.
This is all that is needed! Your recipe will now show up on future Stocktake records!
How Countable Recipes Appear on Stocktakes
A Countable on Stocktake Recipe will appear on a Stocktake like any ordinary Stock Item, however it will have the Packaging Type "Portion" and will be from a Supplier with the name "Countable Recipes".
A count can be entered against this Recipe the same as you would against any ordinary Stock Item.
How the Countable Recipes are used in Calculations and Valuations
When this Countable Recipe is then used for any system calculations, like Variance or Theoretical Stock on Hand, the Recipe will not appear and will instead be broken down into the ingredient Stock Items.
A good way to view this process in action is on the Stocktake Valuation Report.
The report above is for the same Stocktake displayed earlier in this guide. As can be seen, the count of 52 Gnocchi portions have been split out into the raw ingredient Stock Items for valuation purposes.
